Multi-Stake Triathlon: Frequently Asked Questions

General

Why must I wear my race number (bib) on the front?

Our time keepers must manually enter your race number into the system as you enter the pool, and cross the finish line. If they can't see your number, you are not guaranteed to have a time in the results. Wearing your bib on the front will better allow the time keepers to see your number so they can record your time.

NOTE: If you complete the triathlon and wish to go back and finish with another participant, REMOVE YOUR BIB for any subsequent finishes. If you do not, you will have another finish time recorded, which will make it appear that you took longer to complete the triathlon.

Lost & Found: Where do I find my gear that did not make it to my T2 chair?

If you don't find all of your gear at your race number's chair at T2, please check near the west entrance of the church at T2/Finish.

Registration

What is the Swim Category for?

To help minimize collisions and congestion in the swimming pool, we try to organize swimmers with similar skill levels. This is not a badge of honor, but a help in swimming with those of similar speed... so please by honest when specifying your category during registration.

NOTE: If you are participating as a family and you are a stronger swimmer, you don't need to swim with your children. Please specify your regular swim category when you register and swim with those participants instead. Otherwise, select category 5 and swim slower with your children.

Are there special requirements for participants under the age of 18?

Yes. Participants ages 11-17 may register for the Triathlon. When checking in on the day of the Triathlon, the participant must provide a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian.

Check-In

What are the optimal steps for check-in?

  1. Come to the pool and put your bike in the bike staging area.
  2. Enter the check-in line for the swim category you registered under.
    • If you don't remember your swim category: find your confirmation email, or go to the information table first and have a volunteer look it up.
  3. Drop your shoes off at T2 (the church by the cemetery), on the chair that contains your bib number.

Can I change swim category during check-in?

Yes

Instead of entering the check-in line for the original category you registered under, please go through the line for the category you are changing to. The volunteer checking you in will be able to change you to the correct category.

Can I change team during check-in?

Most likely

Supported
  • Adding yourself to an existing team
  • Changing yourself from one existing team to another existing team
  • Removing yourself from an existing team
Unsupported
  • Creating a new team and adding yourself to it.

In order to put yourself on a new team, you will need to re-register before going through the check-in line. Check the "I am part of a team" checkbox during registration and add the new team name. When you go through check-in, make sure to tell the volunteer to use the entry with you assigned to the new team name.

Are there special requirements for participants under the age of 18?

Yes. All participants must bring a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian.

Teams

Why do team members get bibs with different race numbers?

We do this for several reasons:
  • This allows the individual to be uniquely identified on the course should they be injured.
  • This avoids wasting time passing the same bib from one team member to another when relaying.
  • Each team member is considered an individual participant, and the timing system is programmed to calculate the team time accordingly.
(see "How is team time calculated?" below)
  • Team members who complete the entire triathlon (Family team, for example), and team members who swim and run will have their individual times available at the end as well.

How is team time calculated?

The team time is calculated by taking the earliest individual start time and the latest individual end time, and subtracting the difference between the two. This allows us to handle a few different team scenarios, and still track individual times for all team members who complete the entire triathlon.

Team Scenarios
Relay Team

The team has multiple people doing different parts of the triathlon.

Team time is based on the Swimmer's start time and the Runner's end time.
NOTE: Team members typically do not appear in the individual results.

Example 1 - Different members doing each part

Name (Part) Start Time End Time Individual Time
Larry (Swim) 07:25:00 AM Not Recorded N/A
Curly (Bike) Not Recorded Not Recorded N/A
Moe (Run) Not Recorded 08:07:42 AM N/A
Team time 00:42:42

Example 2 - One member doing Swim and Bike; the other doing Run

Name (Part[s]) Start Time End Time Individual Time
Kim (Swim and Bike) 07:25:00 AM Not Recorded N/A
Ron (Run) Not Recorded 08:27:03 AM N/A
Team time 01:02:03

Example 3 - One member doing Swim and Run; the other doing Bike

Note: Jean Luc would also appear in the individual times because he has a start and end time recorded.

Name (Part[s]) Start Time End Time Individual Time
Jean-Luc (Swim and Run) 07:25:00 AM 08:27:03 AM 01:02:03
William (Bike) Not Recorded Not Recorded N/A
Team time 01:02:03
Family Team

A family participates in the entire triathlon together. Each person participates as an individual and will appear in the individual results; and the team appears in the team results based on the earliest team member's start time and the latest finisher's end time.

Example

Name Start Time End Time Individual Time
Mike 07:25:00 AM 08:00:14 AM 00:35:14
Carol 07:25:35 AM 08:00:15 AM 00:34:39
Greg 07:25:50 AM 08:00:17 AM 00:34:27
Marcia 07:26:12 AM 08:00:15 AM 00:34:03
Team time 00:35:17

Transitions

How do I make sure my T1 gear makes it to the right place in T2?

Make sure ALL your gear is placed in your numbered bag at T1. This bag will be transported to T2 and placed on the chair with your bib number on it.

If you don't put all of your gear in the bag, it may get lost and you will need to check the Lost & Found on the west side of the church where you finish the Triathlon.
