Emergency Preparedness

Action Plan for June: Spiritual

  • Understand the need for not only physical or temporal preparation, but the need for developing and strengthening our spiritual preparedness to meet challenges with faith and perseverance.
  • Spiritual and emotional strength and resiliency and key to surviving disasters, whether natural disasters or the disasters of life.  Spiritual and emotional strength and resiliency do not just appear without effort any more than do water, food, or shelter.  These resources also require up front, purposeful preparation, as often exemplified by the Parable of the Ten Virgins.

Plan, Prepare, Practice:

  • The great test of life is to see whether we will hearken to and obey God’s commands in the midst of the storms of life.”  Elder Henry B. Eyring, (Oct. 2005)
  • This talk provides an excellent framework for continuously strengthening and renewing our spiritual preparedness.
  • Seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost to know how you can best practice “filling your lamp”
  • Consider the checklist suggested on the Riverton Central Stake Emergency Preparedness website.

Testaments of Jesus Christ

The Doctrine of Belonging,”

President D. Todd Christofferson, then a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles,

General Conference, October 2022

“A sense of belonging is important to our physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Yet it is quite possible that at times each of us might feel that we don’t fit in. In discouraging moments, we may feel that we will never measure up to the Lord’s high standards or the expectations of others. We may unwittingly impose expectations on others — or even ourselves — that are not the Lord’s expectations. We may communicate in subtle ways that the worth of a soul is based on certain achievements or callings, but these are not the measure of our standing in the Lord’s eyes. ‘The Lord looketh on the heart’ (1 Samuels 16:7). He cares about our desires and longings and what we are becoming.”
