Emergency Preparedness

Action Plan for September: Communication

  • Understand Emergency Communication for your community and neighborhood.  How will information be shared?  Have a plan for communication and gathering within your family, both with and without phone service.
  • Accurate information allows you to make informed decisions. Should I stay in place or evacuate?  Affected Areas?  Expected Duration?
  • Plan for disruption:  Where are my family members? Do I need to go get the children from school?   The phones don’t work, now what?   My battery is dead and the power is out.  Where will we meet up if we are separated?  How do I use an emergency radio?
  • Plan:
  • Download the Emergency Communication Packet  Click Here
  • Review the options for short term and longer term needs
  • Check out the links and choose options that work best for you.
  • Resources are at the Bottom of the Page
  • Prepare:
  • Start or Update your Emergency Communication Plan and Supplies.
  •  Fill out and have family members carry Emergency Contact Cards, (e.g. place in cell phone case and in Go Bags)
  • Establish an out-of-state contact for family members to call with status and location
  • Establish an outside-the-home emergency meeting place.
  • Establish an outside-the-neighborhood emergency meeting place.
  • Gather and maintain Emergency Communications Supplies (Radio, cell phone charger, etc.).
  • Learn the emergency communications plans for your city, schools, and places of employment.
  • Practice:
  • Hands on practice has been shown to be the best way to be able to respond well in an emergency.   Dry run various scenarios and the anxiety of the emergency is greatly decreased.
  • Have a practice “emergency”.  Talk about how you will communicate.  Gather at your meeting places, in and outside the neighborhood...
  • Practice using your equipment, emergency radio—where do you tune in for information?

Youth Book of Mormon Reading Challenge

We started a Book of Mormon challenge at the beginning of March, and the goal is to read from the Book of Mormon every day!  The youth were given a reading chart and asked to mark off the days they read…it does not have to be consecutive days…we have rewards for 21 days, 60 days, 100 days, 150 days, and 200 days.  When the youth complete one of these benchmarks, they can talk to a leader to get a reward! They do not need to read a certain amount, 1 verse, a chapter, for a certain amount of time; whatever they feel they can read each day is all that is asked.  We invite all youth to participate!

Latter-Day Prophets Speak

“Sacred Scriptures - The Foundations of Faith,” Elder Quentin L. Cook.

General Conference, October 2024

“Whether handheld or digital, the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ provide spiritual guidance and teaching from Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. We treasure these books for their profound role in documenting God’s direction to ancient prophets and people and the guidance they provide for our own personal lives.Combined with the teachings of living prophets, these sacred scriptures provide doctrinal direction for us in today’s world. These scriptures are most powerful when they give instruction, correction, comfort, and consolation to individuals and families who seek guidance from the Lord.”
