Emergency Preparedness

Action Plan for November: Identification and Key Document

  • Understand the importance of personal identification and key documents in an emergency.
  • Personal Identification cards provide family members, especially those without government ID such as a driver’s license a form of ID and contact information to help in locating and reuniting family members.
  • Key Documents can be critical in post-disaster recovery in the form of physical copies and/or electronic backup. This typically includes personal, financial, insurance, medical and other documents that you will need access to.
  • Download the Identification and Documents Packet  Click Here
  • Review the suggested options for short term and longer term needs
  • Check out the links and choose options that work best for you.
  • Resources are at the Bottom of the Page

Prepare:

  • Fill out and have family members carry some form of Emergency Identification along with family Emergency Contact Cards, (e.g. place in cell phone case and in Go Bags)  A personal identification form has been created here that may be used.
  • Identify key documentation that you likely will need and make a plan for secure back-up.  This typically is a combination of physical copies for immediate access and digital back-ups.
  • It is wise to have an emergency cash fund secured with your documents as access to banks may be limited.

Practice:

  • Pull out and discuss the personal identification cards with your family.  Make sure each personal has them in an accessible location (backpack, phone case, wallet)
  • Review and update key documents, password files, account information, ideally every six months or as they change.  Make sure more than one person knows how to access the documents.

Latter-Day Prophets Speak

“Spiritually Defining Memories” by Elder Neil L. Andersen

General Conference, April 2020

Eighteen years after the First Vision, the Prophet Joseph Smith wrote an extensive account of his experience. He had faced opposition, persecution, harassment, threats and brutal attacks. Yet he continued to boldly testify of his First Vision…In his difficult hours, Joseph’s memory reached back nearly two decades to the certainty of God’s love for him and the events that welcomed in the long-foretold Restoration. Reflecting on his spiritual journey, Joseph said: ‘I don’t blame any one for not believing my history. If I had not experienced what I have, I would not have believed it myself.’ But the experiences were real, and he never forgot or denied them, quietly confirming his testimony as he moved to Carthage. ‘I am going like a lamb to the slaughter,” he said, “but I am calm as a summer’s morning; I have a conscience void of offense towards God, and towards all men’ (Doctrine and Covenants 135:4).”
