Emergency Preparedness

Action Plan for August: Sanitation and Hygiene

  • Understand your Sanitation and Hygiene needs and options.  Store sufficient supplies for at least one month. Learn how to safely dispose of waste and avoid disease.  Practice emergency hygiene and sanitation skills.
  • The second emergency after an initial disaster is disease outbreak. Improper hygiene and sanitation often lead to deadly diseases.
  • Having storage of hygiene and sanitation supplies and knowing how to safely use them at home and away is vital.

Plan:

  • Download the Emergency Sanitation and Hygiene Packet  Click Here
  • Review the options for short-term and longer-term needs
  • Check out the links and choose options that work best for you.
  • Resources are at the end of this section.

Prepare:

  • Start or Update your Emergency Sanitation Supplies.
  • Add hygiene and sanitation supplies to your disaster supply kit.(Grab and Go Bags)
  • Next: Gather supplies, including one month or more of toilet paper, feminine hygiene products as needed, hand sanitizer, paper towels, garbage bags, and cleaning supplies.
  • Create a "sanitation and porta-potty" kit and add it to your emergency supplies.
  • Gather supplies for doing laundry and dishes by hand. Teach household members how.

Practice:

  • Hands on practice has been shown to be the best way to be able to respond well in an emergency.   Dry run various scenarios and the anxiety of the emergency is greatly decreased.
  • Set up and Practice using your hand washing station.  Explain the importance of cleanliness and hygiene, and how it would work in a disaster.
  •  Practice with the porta-potty might be done while camping.  But even just setting it up and explaining the process will be helpful to the family.

Youth Book of Mormon Reading Challenge

We started a Book of Mormon challenge at the beginning of March, and the goal is to read from the Book of Mormon every day!  The youth were given a reading chart and asked to mark off the days they read…it does not have to be consecutive days…we have rewards for 21 days, 60 days, 100 days, 150 days, and 200 days.  When the youth complete one of these benchmarks, they can talk to a leader to get a reward! They do not need to read a certain amount, 1 verse, a chapter, for a certain amount of time; whatever they feel they can read each day is all that is asked.  We invite all youth to participate!

Latter-Day Prophets Speak

“Receive His Gift,” Elder Patrick Kearon

General Conference, April 2025

“Our Heavenly Father has innumerable gifts of light and truth prepared to shower down on each of us, His treasured children. They flow from our Bounteous Giver like a wellspring in the wilderness from His benevolent heart. ‘Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights.’ (James1:7) In our covenant bond with the Father, He is ever the Giver and we the humble recipient.”
