Emergency Preparedness

Action Plan for July: Cooking

  • Can you prepare food without your normal kitchen appliances? It's important to know how to safely make meals when the lights are out and the gas is gone. Having a safe source of cooking heat and knowing different means of cooking are vital  to "be ready" for emergency survival
  • Understand various cooking options.  Select one or more cooking option that would work best for you.  Gather sufficient supplies to cook for you and your family for a minimum of two weeks.   Practice using the cooking method and equipment.

Plan:

  • Download the Emergency Cooking Packet  Click Here
  • Review the Links in the text:
  • Resources are at the Bottom of the Page
  • Be Ready Utah has much information
  • Customize to your needs

Prepare:

  • Start or Update your Emergency Cooking Plan
  • Gather equipment and fuel to allow you to safely cook for a MINIMUM of 2 weeks
  • Extend to longer times for extended emergencies
  • Developing more than one cooking option will allow for flexibility

Practice:

  • Hands on practice has been shown to be the best way to be able to respond well in an emergency.   Dry run various scenarios and the anxiety of the emergency is greatly decreased.
  • Practice using only outdoor cooking methods for a full meal or better yet for a full day.  Note what worked well and what improvements could be made
  • Involve the kids.  Make it fun and they will feel less anxiety in an actual emergency

The Church’s “Addiction Recovery Program” and its accompanying “Help for Spouses and Family Program” shares steps and principles of hope, guidance and healing available to each of us through the Savior’s Atonement. Anonymous, confidential and understanding help is available in weekly meetings that can be found by opening this link. We welcome you in joining others who started this healing path before you.

Testaments of Jesus Christ

“Be Not Troubled,” Elder Ronald A. Rasband, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

General Conference, October 2018

“We may or may not have chariots of fire sent to dispel our fears and conquer our demons, but the lesson is clear. The Lord is with us, mindful of us and blessing us in ways only He can do. Prayer can call down the strength and the revelation that we need to center our thoughts on Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice. The Lord knew that at times we would feel fear. I have been there and so have you. … In this Church we may be few in number by the way the world counts influence, but when we open our spiritual eyes, ‘they that be with us are more than they that be with them’ [2 Kings 6:16]”
