Emergency Preparedness

Action Plan for December: Rotating Your Food Storage

  • Develop a plan for rotating without wasting your food storage.
  • Understand expiration dates on food items.
  • Store what your family will eat
  • Mark or Identify purchase dates so you can use the oldest items first.
  • Review the suggested options for storing and rotating
  • Check out the links and choose options that work best for you.
  • Resources are at the Bottom of the Page

Prepare:

  • Understand guidelines for safe storage of the foods you plan to store.
  • Commercially canned foods have a few years of nutrition beyond the stamped "best by" date, but check for signs of spoilage. If there are signs of spoilage, discard the food without eating.
  • Make a list of the foods in your pantry or that your family typically eats.
  • Clean out old items to make room for these “Store to eat” items

Practice:

  • The simplest way to rotate your food storage without too much pain or waste is to “Eat what you Store and Store what you Eat”.  This seems like a simple concept but if you practice this approach you will naturally develop a supply of the foods your family likes and will eat.  You pull from your storage items for meals and snacks and replace the items with fresh ones.  In an emergency you will have food that is familiar and comfortable that also reduces the anxiety of the situation.
  • Place items in your storage in an organized fashion, with similar items together and the oldest items toward the front for first use.
  • Marking the purchase date on the items can be an easy way to see which items you should use first.

Addiction Recovery Program

Addiction’s destructive behaviors negatively affect not only the addicted individual but their loved ones. The Church’s “Addiction Recovery Program” and its accompanying “Help for Spouses and Family Program” shares steps and principles of hope, guidance and healing available to each of us through the Savior’s Atonement. Anonymous, confidential and understanding help is available in weekly meetings that can be found by opening this link. We welcome you in joining others who started this healing path before you.

“Worship ”by then Elder D. Todd Christofferson,

General Conference, April 2025

“True worship means loving God and yielding our will to Him—the most precious gift we can offer…Ultimately, how we live may be the best, most genuine form of worship. Showing our devotion means emulating the Father and the Son—cultivating Their attributes and character in ourselves.”
